Orchestrating the elements of a pastel landscape painting are analogies to the conductor of the orchestra and director of a film. One has a score, the other a script, but both control the players to produce the final performance. Students will explore manipulations of composition, value, and color as a means of adding their personal feelings to landscape subject matter. Various techniques of pastel manipulation, often utilizing underpainting techniques, will be demonstrated throughout the workshop to orchestrate the final outcome along with ample individual attention at the easel.
Through daily demonstrations, individual attention, and classroom discussions, participants will come away with a clearer understanding of the universal basics of painting.
